Jewellery Care Guide and Jump Rings

Care Guide for Sterling Silver Jewellery

Sterling silver is a beautiful precious metal, but because of its natural properties, it can tarnish over time when exposed to the elements. To keep your Zophy collection looking its best, follow our simple maintenance and storage recommendations below.

Method 1: Daily Dry Maintenance

For regular upkeep, we recommend cleaning your jewellery frequently with a high-quality silver polishing cloth.

  • The Process: Gently buff the surface of your silver with the cloth.

  • The Result: This process effectively lifts away surface tarnish and restores the metal's original high-shine finish.

Method 2: Deep Cleaning for Dull Pieces

If your jewellery needs a bit more attention, follow this two-step rinsing method:

  1. Rinse: Wash the item in warm water.

  2. Dry: Pat the piece dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not rub while the piece is wet, as this can cause fine scratches.

  3. Polish: Once the item is entirely dry, use a polishing cloth to softly buff the silver back to a glow.

Proper Storage

Prevention is just as important as cleaning. Every Zophy piece includes a dedicated storage pouch.

Pro Tip: When you aren't wearing your jewellery, keep it tucked away inside its pouch. This limits exposure to moisture and air, the primary culprits that accelerate the tarnishing process.

Jump Rings

At Zophy, we care greatly about our customers and your experience with us which is why we use open jump rings on our chains and bracelets to protect you and also the jewellery.

An open jump rings work to protect you and the piece if the jewellery is pulled or caught by allowing the piece to separate at the ring, so that you are not hurt and the links are not damaged. If the jump ring was closed and the chain or bracelet had no point to relieve the force being applied to it so the links become broken instead, this would then make it very difficult to be fixed.

If the jump ring is only slightly pulled apart and not damaged, it can be pushed back together securing the clasp back onto the end cap.

If the jump ring has been damaged, this can be easily replaced with a new one by hooking the ring onto the clasp and the end cap and then gently pushing the jump ring back together.
